Collection: hearts

The heart has symbolised love for thousands of years, with evidence of the ancient Greeks and Romans using it in literature back in the 7th Century BC. It was believed that Aphrodite / Venus the goddess of love set hearts on fire with the help of her son Eros / Cupid aiming his arrows at human hearts. The ancient alchemists (and people who dealt with magic) also used the heart symbol for their rituals associated with love, romance, and sexual attraction.   

The heart symbol has since become more widely recognised as a symbol to show empathy, appreciation, happiness, and friendship, as well as its original meanings of love and romance.
