Collection: zodiac

A magical collection of zodiac birthstone jewellery designs created by elfin alchemy with each month's gemstone colours reinterpreted in sparkly Swarovski crystals using the Swarovski crystal birthstone list created by them in the 1950s.

The zodiac birthstone's origin is believed to date back to the 13-14th Century BC and the 12 gemstones in the breastplate of Aaron in ancient Egypt. Moses had the breastplate created for his brother Aaron, the leader of a tribe of priests, to wear when communicating with God. There have been many different interpretations by scholars of the exact modern-day gemstones in the ancient breastplate resulting in variations in each month's birthstones. Because of this, in 1912 the American National Jewellers Association compiled a new birthstone list known as the 'modern' birthstone list, upon which the Swarvoski crystal list is based.

The name zodiac comes from the ancient Greeks, from a term for 'sculpted animal figure'. Although before the Greeks, the Babylonians had already divided the zodiac into 12 equal signs by 1500 BC, with similar constellation names to the ones we use today. In the 2nd Century AD, the Roman-Greek astronomer Ptolemy helped popularize these 12 zodiac signs. 

Below is the list of the Zodiac star signs with their Swarovski crystals and related gemstone (in brackets if the gemstone has a different name to the crystal) and 2023's list of dates (the dates change slightly each year) beginning with the start of the Zodiacal year at the Spring Equinox on the 20th or 21st of March / Aries.
